Port Aransas ISD — A Legacy of Excellence
Nestled on beautiful Mustang Island, Port Aransas Independent School District is a unique coastal school community where students are known, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. Serving approximately 580 students across H.G. Olsen Elementary, Brundrett Middle School, and Port Aransas High School, PAISD combines the personalized attention of a small district with innovative opportunities that prepare students for success in college, careers, and life.
At PAISD, learning is more than a destination - it is a journey. From the earliest grades, students are encouraged
to explore their interests, ask meaningful questions, and engage in authentic learning experiences that connect the classroom to the world around them. As students grow, those experiences evolve into leadership development, service opportunities, advanced academics, career exploration, and real-world partnerships that help them discover their passions and purpose.
What sets Port Aransas ISD apart is our commitment to learning by doing. Through partnerships with families, local businesses, first responders, civic organizations, the University of Texas Marine Science Institute and other organizations, students engage in hands-on experiences that foster curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Whether publishing original books, participating in leadership programs, earning industry-based certifications, completing college-level coursework through UT OnRamps and Advanced Placement courses, or serving on the Mayor's Youth Council, students are empowered to become confident learners and engaged citizens.
This commitment to authentic learning is celebrated annually through the Marlin Museum, a district-
wide showcase where students present projects, research, artwork, performances, and innovations that reflect their growth and accomplishments.
The Marlin Museum embodies our belief that students are not simply consumers of knowledge - they are creators, researchers, presenters, innovators, and leaders. PAISD is proud of its longstanding tradition of excellence, including consistently strong academic outcomes, high graduation rates, a student-teacher ratio of 11:1, and a wide range of opportunities in academics, fine arts, athletics, leadership, and Career and Technical Education. Marlin athletics are a source of pride throughout our community, with
a tradition of success that emphasizes teamwork, character, perseverance, and sportsmanship while providing students opportunities to compete and excel at the district, regional, and state levels. The opening of the Jim and Judy Cole Performing Arts Center further expands opportunities for creativity, expression, and community engagement. Our students and staff also benefit from the extraordinary support of the Port Aransas Education Foundation, which has awarded millions of dollars in innovative classroom grants since its inception, and the Marlin Legacy Foundation, whose employee compensation initiative has invested more than $1 million to help attract and retain exceptional educators and staff. Together, these community partnerships strengthen educational opportunities and reinforce our shared commitment to excellence.
Above all, Port Aransas ISD is a community united by a shared commitment to student success. Here, learning is meaningful, relationships matter, and every Marlin is encouraged to discover their potential and chart their own course for the future.
